The Science Behind Engine Oil Development and Testing
Developing and testing new engine oils requires a careful balance: fuel economy must be balanced with product durability and the precision of laboratory testing must be balanced by evaluating the oil’s performance under real-world conditions. Consequently, every product development process is an intense and iterative cycle, from definition to deployment. The market needs to be identified in the early stages of the process, such as the requirement for a high-performance, low-viscosity, heavy-duty engine oil, drive both the formulation and the testing approach.
Truck Description: The pickup on the trailer is a truck I built from a bare frame in my driveway and is a 1 of 1. It’s a 2016 Ford F-250 Lariat, but under the hood lies a 2000 model year 7.3L Powerstroke and ZF6 Manual transmission. Ford ceased manual transmissions in the super duty trucks in 2010, I couldn’t buy what I wanted so I built one.
